Samuel Adams was my go to beer for years before my Celiac diagnosis. Wanting to enjoy those unique flavors, I wrote to the folks at the Boston Beer Company to see if they had anything in the pipeline. Here is the response:

Thank you for getting in touch with us about making a Samuel Adams gluten-free beer. We are sorry to hear about your condition and that it prevents you from enjoying so many foods, especially Samuel Adams.

Right now, we make only traditional brewed beers, which naturally contain gluten. We have asked our brewers to look into gluten-free beer and see whether this is something that would make sense for us to pursue.

Thank you again for letting us know about the need for gluten-free beers.

Cheers,

Todd Bellomy
Consumer Relations Representative
The Boston Beer Company

If you have an interest in seeing a Gluten-Free Sam Adams on the market, contact them and let them know there is an interest.

I am pleased to report that most varieties of Woodchuck Cider are Gluten Free and super tasty. This isn’t an assumption because it is made from apples, they had it tested:

Green Mountain Beverage has received numerous inquiries asking if Woodchuck Draft Ciders contain gluten. Due to these requests Green Mountain Beverage had each of the Woodchuck Draft Cider styles tested by ABC Research Corp., Gainesville, FL. We have received the analytical results confirming that all Woodchuck Draft Cider styles are naturally gluten free! (Amber, Dark & Dry 802, Granny Smith, Pear, and Raspberry).

One of the major disappointments for me as a Celiac was how many adult beverage options were no longer an option. Beer was a huge pleasure of mine and one of the first things I went looking for was a replacement. As I looked far and wide the first brand I discovered was Bard’s Tale Beer, which is made from sorghum.

Though it doesn’t replace the taste of Sam Adams, my former go to beer, it is refreshing and goes down smooth with a burger and fries. The flavor is distinct and, to my palate, finishes with a hint of anise.

Price: $8.99 for a 6 pack.

Purchased at: Wegmans.
